The target audience consists of our current church members, regular or occasional visitors, and all who would be interested in learning about the beliefs and practices of our church. Since our church has a wide age range and a large, active and technologically savvy youth group, the site format will need to appeal not only to adults, but to youth and children as well. This will entail keeping the site very easy to navigate for all, but appealing enough to hold the interest of our young people. Two people who work with the youth will be a part a continuing discussion about the website along with an established committee.
User expectations will include the ability to find topics under familiar headings, to be able to return easily to a home page and find links to other interesting and helpful sites. They will also anticipate the ability to communicate with the webmaster or other “consolidator” for the website and perhaps the pastor and other leaders directly via phone numbers, fax and particularly e-mail. The church has approved the construction of this website and formed a committee of four to assist in the collection of materials and review of site construction as it is readied for final posting to the web. Also I have written e-mails to the United Methodist Headquarters and received copyright permission for the basic logos and information and timelines on obtaining permission for other items, e.g. hymns, writings and other graphics.
