Our Churches Past Missions
10th Annual Mission Fair/Gift World
Sunday, November 6th
This is our opportunity to “shop” for alternative Christmas gifts that show our love and benefit mission ministries worldwide. Recent hurricanes Katrina & Rita have turned our focus to helping with disaster relief as well as continuing support for areas of ministry close to home & abroad. A recent Interpreter headline read:
| “Hurricane Katrina: United Methodists will respond ‘as long as necessary' .” |
The Bible tells us in II Cor.8:13-15 – “Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality..” As we do unto others as we would have others do unto us, we are living according to God's will.
SEE YOU AT THE FAIR! |
Mission Update !
The Mission Committee met on August 25 to consider the church's mission budget for 2006 and begin planning the annual Mission Fair scheduled for Sunday, November 6. It's not too early for classes and individuals to consider "where in the world" they want to place their focus for their booth or display at the Fair. You'll be hearing more about this special event -- Mission Fair and Gift World - soon!
We're all looking forward to Julie and Natalie Latteer's return from Honduras and hearing all about the ways God lifted them up and used them in His ministry in Honduras.
Abel NDjerareou and wife, Priscille, our Chadian friends, are planning a year's sabbatical in the U.S. beginning sometime this fall. They are praying for financial support to carry them through this period of rest and writing. Though their time will be mainly on the West Coast, we are hopeful to have them come here sometime during the year. Let's pray for their planned leave and sufficient support to make it possible.

June Mission Focus'
ESTES seminary in Chad
ESTES - Shalom Evangelical School of Theology - Chad, AFRICA
For several years our church has provided annual scholarship assistance to this seminary in the Chad. ESTES was founded in 1989 to prepare men and women for various ministries in the rapidly growing churches of French-speaking Africa. In the past it was necessary to travel to France or other countries to receive full ministerial training at a university-level institution. Today ESTES provides the resources to train Christ-like leadership in an African context for ministry at the national and local church levels. Abel NDjerareou, former director of ESTES,, and now Dean of a graduate-level seminary, FATEB, in Bangui, Central Africa, has been our guest on two occasions, sharing his vision for the Lord's ministry in French-speaking Africa. Watch the church's web-site and the bulletin board in the Narthex for more information.

"Hope for the Children of Africa"
Children's home in Freetown.
This home when constructed will be a NEW home to 100 child ex- combatants; a clinic; a school; a trauma counseling center; and a Director's residence.
When the armed conflict in Sierra Leone ended in 1999, the plight of childen in Sierra Leone was pathetic. Many of the children were conscripted as young as age 6 to carry arms and participate in the conflict alongside the adults. They were left to roam the streets uncared for and uneducated. The Home will employ a multipurpose school system that will develop skills alongside formal education. The initial intake of children will include those who were directly involved in the conflict and those who were not.
Our Conference goal is $288,000. Contact: Central Pennsylvania Conference, UMC, P. O. Box 2053, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055-2053. |

| Highlighting -THE LOVE FUND |
Our ministries in the community are sometimes private. One such project that has been ongoing for over twenty-five years is the Love Fund. This fund supplies money or supplies to help clothe, feed, heat and cool, but also any real need that occurs that the committee hears about. Each year the schools, and other organizations are asked about needs and the group tries to accomodate them. Most of the money comes from the funds raised at the "hot sausage" stand at the Carnival. The young adults class heads the activity, but get help from all ages of the church. |
