“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. . .”

John 3: 16 ( KJV )

I volunteer monthly at the Ronald McDonald House. Of all my duties, the most important one is to be visible and available to talk with guests.

On one of many workdays, a gentleman stopped at my desk to register family members who would be coming to the House that day. Innocently, I inquired about the condition of his comatose granddaughter only to be told she had died that morning. The family was meeting in the House to get through the process of donating her organs. I had to swallow hard, but it still did not stop the tears from falling. I had been there, but only on the side of a family praying for a donor for my ill grandson.

I had come face to face with the pain and caring of a family willing to give their child's organs so that others might live. The Lord put me there that day to be exposed to the feeling of a donor family. Despite the pain, I could see peace in this grandfather's eyes. What a blessing!

Didn't God do this for us, giving his only Son to die for us that we might have eternal life? This family, too, cared enough to give so that others might live. This is “The Gift of Life.”

We'll never know how far-reaching their gift was, but we are assured that God loves us so much so that we will have eternal life. What a gift that is! We are blessed!
