“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 ( NIV ) |
As my children were running through the house, playing loudly, I realized, after praying and struggling for the “perfect” words, that I was surrounded by my devotional message. I asked my boys if they had any favorite Bible stories to use for this message and they had good, quick answers such as David and Goliath and Peter walking on water. These two classic stories of faith have become embedded in their memories and will become a very small part of their Biblical knowledge as they grow and learn. It is reassuring to know, as Proverbs 22:6 tells us, that if we direct our children in the right path - the way of wisdom - that they will always return to it. We as parents, must use our God-granted gifts of love and discipline, although it is not always easy to “train” them. Therefore, it is my prayer that my children will have the faith of David when he faced Goliath, or even faith as small as a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20) as they make their journeys through life.
