. . . “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17:20 ( NIV )

It was early on August 4, 1923, when I was given life by my Lord and Savior. The news given to my parents caused them lots of sadness, because the doctor said, “This child has the worst case of double-club feet I have ever seen.” My mother told me when I got older, that the family shed lots of tears- not knowing what was best to do. She prayed along with my dad and family. She carried this sorrow until her death, feeling she had done something wrong. The decision my parents had to make was to begin surgery before I was three months old, or do nothing and I would remain an invalid. My parents decided to have the surgery. I spent many, many years in and out of hospitals. The surgeries totaled 24 - 12 on each foot. I needed to wear casts, braces and high shoes. I could not do things like the other children.

But I look back and thank my Lord and Savior that the decision my parents made was the right one. When I was seventeen, I was to have one more operation and my parents decided that I should make my own decision about this one. I was so happy that the Lord had done so much for me already and if I had done this surgery, I would wear shoes of two different sizes. I prayed! God said, “I will take care of you.” And he has.

Today at 80, I walk outside six days a week except for winter when I go to the mall. The miracles God has given to me are wonderful. I thank God every day for what he has done for both Leonard and me. We have the faith of the mustard seed–nothing is impossible with God. God is so good.
